
Dr. Richard Kurzmann was born in Bronx, New York. His family lived in Long Island for a short period of time before moving to what was then rural Northern New Jersey. He attended Westwood, NJ. public schools. His education continued at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD where he earned his BA in 1965. His medical training began at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. He graduated with an MD degree in 1969. After a year of internship in medicine and surgery at the University of Iowa hospitals in Iowa City, IA, he began his residency training at North Carolina Memorial Hospital at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and he completed his training there in 1974. After two years in the United States Army he began practice in Laurinburg, NC. He moved to Raleigh in 1977, remaining with the same practice until this year when he joined Drs. Rildia Pritchett and Wanda Radford to help start the Wake Women’s Health gynecology practice. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was chairman of the Ob/Gyn department at Rex Hospital from 1990-1994.
He married his college sweetheart Kay Burroughs, a former elementary school teacher, in 1966. They have three grown daughters, all graduates of Wake Forest University, who have blessed them with nine precious grandchildren. Besides his medical practice, Dr. Kurzmann enjoys the beach and golfing, but most of all time spent with his family and grandchildren.
